Someone has set up a fraudulent Facebook profile of me

by G de Bruyn

Somebody opened a facebook page using my photo and some of my personal information from my official facebook page (of which the profile picture can easily be downloaded). This person oviously didn't like me much and added all sorts of insulting information to that page. I didn't notice it untill it showed up on my 'friends' page as a potential friend that I may like to add. At that stage several friends had actually signed up as friends on that fraudulent page.

I wonder if it could be traced somehow who actually set up that page?

Be carefull! It may be wise not to use a picture on your profile at all!

Editor's Comment: Thank you for sending us these thoughts and offering such a warning. Facebook identity theft in its various forms is far more common than people realise or imagine. Hopefully, your warning will ensure a few more people are careful with their use of the privacy controls of Facebook.com.
