Someone else's name came up instead of me

While trying to enter my profile (first time ever on facebook) I entered my email address and someone else's name and birthdate popped up. I'm assuming someone has been using my email address so they could create a profile under a fake name? How did they get my password?
Facebook addresses me as Denis Mohammud. My name is not Denis Mohammud and the birthday is not my birthday.

Editor's Comment: Thanks for sharing. That sounds as though someone actually has - or did have - access to your email account. That is very worrying.

We would suggest that you change your password immediately. Before doing so, it might be worth looking in your email account for old confirmation emails from Facebook. It might be possible for you to find the information enabling you to login to the fake account and close it, and then change your email account password.

We hope you can resolve this quickly and easily.

Best wishes.
