What Does The ICO Think About Social Networking Websites?

23rd November 2007 - The UK's Information Commissioner's Office has warned about social networking websites in a press release aimed at reaching young people.

The press release warns about the type of information being placed online by young people in Britain who appear to have little understanding about how it might be stored or accessed in the future.

It seems that many young people post sensitive information on these sites - such as dates of birth, home address, full name and family names. Of course, there are worse than that too!

However, information like this can be enough to start an identity thief on the trail of a fresh victim.

This information might also be found if searched for by a potential employer, university or teacher.
