Tip 7: Protect Cards And PIN Numbers

It goes without saying that it is important to protect cards and PIN numbers, yet many of us do not.

Your author can clearly recall visiting a friend many years ago. We played together in a local pool team and it was my turn to drive.

On arriving at his home, I was invited in as he was not yet ready. Taped to a cupboard door in his kitchen was a list of all his PIN numbers next to details of the card in question! I was amazed. He explained that he picked up this little tip from an uncle who could not recall his numbers either...

This is not what should be thought of as security.

In honour of such risk takers, below are a list of ideas that will help to protect cards and PIN numbers:

Always keep your credit, debit and cash cards safe and never give them to other people

Memorse your PIN numbers. Do not give these details to other people

When using a card at an ATM, be careful not to be overlooked by either cameras or other people

When choosing a PIN number, be careful to avoid using easily locatable facts about you - such as a date of birth.

Check statements regularily to ensure that transactions are correct - always report any transactions that you do not recognise
