Identy theft from facebook

by Bill Williams
(Campbell River, BC Canada)

I was compromised in Facebook, someone used my email and was able to use the same pages as mine. It wasn't pretty, I kept getting emails from people saying that I sent them email that I know I wasn't. Anyways, supposedly Facebook tech people contacted me to change my password and to make it more secure. I attempted to contact Facebook, but they seem to be the only network that are unreachable. I wanted to make sure that it was them contacting me to change my password.

Editor's Comment: Thanks for sharing this Bill. We have heard of other similar stories. A real problem seems to be contacting support to clear up these problems.

Many Web 2.0 type sites have less than perfect response times and processes for dealing with site visitors. One of the benefits of the web is that it is possible to be visible to many millions of visitors with a relatively small staff. But fast growing companies need customer support teams too, and this is often overlooked.

We hope that you have been able to conclude this and that your details are now secure.

Best wishes.
