I am so upset

by Angel
(Philippines)

I used not to have a facebook account. I have mortal fear of identity theft so I don't post pertinent information about myself and I did not ever personally uploaded pictures of myself on to the internet.

A week ago, I browsed the internet and was so surprised that there is an existing facebook account with my name and photo in it. That photo was uploaded by a friend in his or her friendster account years ago. I am really really upset because she sent messages to my classmates.

The risk that they might post pictures or statements that could tarnish my reputation haunts me everyday. So, I decided to make a real account in facebook and I sent personal messages to that person, asking him why on earth did they make an account with my name and photo. That person has not replied to this very day. I am dreading everyday that he or she might do something that could really damage my character to everyone I know.

Editor's Comment: Thank you Angel for contacting us about this issue. We agree that there are real risks associated with social media websites - including sites like Facebook and MySpace - for users.

We hope that it is possible for you to resolve this situation and preferably have the fake account removed. We wish you luck.
